The Nurtured Heart Approach®
Helping Families and Children FlourishThis is what the Nurtured Heart Approach® (NHA) does better than anything I have found. NHA uses a structure that builds relationship, reduces stress, improves communication, transforms behaviour and eliminates conflict with effectiveness and compassion. As adults, we learn to communicate in ways that children can deeply hear so they feel seen, valued and appreciated. They feel connected to us and capable of acting out successfully and positively.
The Nurtured Heart Approach® accomplishes the results that adults are looking for.
- Teaches values, boundaries and rules without an endless search for the ‘right’ punishment.
- Nurtures positive, supportive and richly connected relationships.
- Recognizes the truth behind a negative behaviour with the power to ensure that truth is the focus rather than the behaviour itself.
- Creates in the moment successes to avoid getting stuck in regret of the past or fear of the future.
- Maximizes opportunities to build trust, strengths and healthy emotional foundations.
- Empowers children to choose to act out their intensity in productive and positive ways.
- Empowers adults to effectively support their children rather than seeking to fix a behaviour.
- Reduces stress, conflict, frustration, overwhelm, confusion and disappointment.
- Promotes both adult and child confidence.
- Prepares adults to manage personal triggers.
- Builds skills of Inner Wealth™ which includes emotional regulation, self-worth, self-awareness and resilience.
The Nurtured Heart Approach® is a philosophy, created by Howard Glasser. It consists of a set of strategies, which, when used consistently together, are extremely successful to transform even the most intense or challenging behaviours in children. Ultimately, it helps ALL children to thrive regardless of age, stage or ability.
Illuminating a child’s inner power, helps them grow to see it and believe in it themselves.
It Starts with Building the Relationship
Starting with building the relationship, this social-emotional learning framework focuses on shifting how, when and why we interact with children. In this way, it nourishes a child’s emotional wellbeing and feelings of trust between the adult and child while teaching lifelong skills to flourish. Children come to see their intensity as greatness for ever more levels of success. Adults become the agent of change. Learn more about integrating NHA as part of parent coaching.
Taking the energy we spend focusing on failures or negative behaviours, NHA purposefully focuses on successes and strengths. Adults learn to interact in ways that nourish authentic connection and communicate what we really value and who we see our children to be. We no longer need lectures to inspire, ‘you can do this’ because we become masterful at having children know this themselves. With the Inner Wealth™ to act out in positive ways, children become strong from the inside out and prepared for the journey ahead.
The Nurtured Heart Approach reaches the place within a person where they can believe that success exists beyond any limiting or negative behaviours they are exhibiting.
At a time when anxiety and stress levels are increasing, lives are also becoming more complex. Furthermore, adults are juggling many issues and responsibilities, needing support to manage it all. With this awareness, NHA includes it all.
- Practical, accessible techniques.
- Fuel for children’s emotional foundation and self-belief.
- Seamless integration with Attachment-based, Relationship-based, Positive, Conscious, Strength-based and Responsive Parenting methods.
- Compassion and respect for child and adult.
- Transformation (not just management) of challenging behaviours.
- Facilitation of strong, effective and open communication.
- Development of deep and trusting relationships.
- Results that leave adults feeling successful, confident and nurturing.
- Useful in all settings as well as with children of all ages, challenges, and abilities. NHA has been used effectively with diagnosis such as anxiety, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome (AS) and Self-Harm.
- Increased joy within people, families, and communities.
At the end of the day, so many things we focus on become unimportant. But, the world may be a different place because we believed in the greatness of a child.
This approach is a core piece of my work with parents, couples and individuals because it is that applicable, powerful and accessible. It can be used by parents, teachers and child therapist individually or closely together to maximize the effect for the child.
When you discover Parent Coaching with me, NHA teachings and tools will be incorporated. I also offer private Nurtured Heart Approach education separately as well as group learning through in-person and or online workshops. Combining education with coaching for support and practice will deepen your skills and enhance your implementation success.

Testimonials
“This approach opened my eyes…”
I have used a positive approach with my children in the past, but this approach opened my eyes to a whole new level of deep and genuine appreciation of who they are.
“I wish I had this training before…”
I have been a school teacher for 18 years and a mother for 15 years and I wish I had this training before I found myself in either of these roles. I am very thankful that at this point I can make tweaks to my approaches that will build inner wealth in my children and students and even repair damage that I thought was irreparable.
“Seriously life-changing information…”
If you have a relationship with your partner, family members, coworkers, clients, or kids that could use any improvement you need to know about the Nurtured Heart Approach. Honestly it’s the biggest bang for the buck education I’ve ever had and I can’t recommend enough. Seriously life-changing information.
